The Challenge 

To influence client-facing employee performance and enhance the customer experience, this client sought a flexible coaching framework that aligned with its customer engagement sales practices and performance expectations. Through a rigorous RFP process, the organization evaluated multiple vendors to identify a leadership model that was adaptable, relevant and sustainable, one that would fit seamlessly into their managers’ day-to-day tasks and support productive in-the-moment and planned coaching conversations. The simplicity and applicability of Situational Leadership® resonated with the client, leading to its selection as a cornerstone of the leadership training initiative.

The Solution 

The client rolled out a combination of ready-to-deliver, custom Situational Leadership® programs to 1,200 leaders across the consumer retail LOB. Programs were grounded in relevant and compelling video-based case study applications set within the context of their business practices and coaching routines. To support ongoing skill development, leaders received role-specific performance support resources designed to strengthen their coaching preparation, execution and follow-up activities. The partnership also included internal trainer certification, enabling the client to assume program delivery and drive cultural alignment. Following the initial launch, the client extended their Situational Leadership® programs to individual contributors in a client-facing leadership roles through tailored versions of each program.

  • Combination of six Situational Leadership® ready-to-deliver and custom offerings 
  • Internal trainer certification  
  • Customized performance support resources that are anchored in consumer retail daily business practices and coaching cadence  
  • Program-specific sustainment resources to reinforce training transfer and continued skill development for new managers across the enterprise

The Results

The organization expanded the use of Situational Leadership® across multiple levels of leadership, including Branch Managers, Area Managers and enterprise senior leaders. The success of the initiative led to the organization-wide implementation of Situational Leadership® with L&D leaders integrating the model into leadership curricula for new people managers and supporting continued skill development through coaching resources and e-learning modules. Tailored learning experiences helped foster cultural alignment around a shared leadership approach, while highly favorable participant feedback reinforced the relevance and applicability of the programs.  

As managers began to apply the model in their daily work, the organization achieved greater cultural alignment, enriched its culture of purpose-driven leadership and strengthened both the quality and effectiveness of the coaching conversations their team engages in every day.
